How To Take Out Acrylic Nails

Remove Acrylic Nails at Home: Everything You Need to Know

Tools and Materials

Before you start, gather the following tools:

  • Nail file with 100/80 grit
  • Nail buffer
  • Acetone (pure, not regular polish remover)
  • Orangewood stick
  • Floss pick
  • Nail clippers

Removing with Acetone

This is the most common and effective method.

1. Pry up the edge: Use a floss pick or cuticle stick to gently lift the bottom edge of the nail closest to your cuticle. 2. Trim the nails: Use nail clippers to trim down the acrylic as short as possible. 3. Soak in acetone: Soak cotton balls in pure acetone and place them over the acrylic nails. Wrap your fingers in tin foil or nail clips for 30 minutes. 4. Gently remove: The acrylic should now be softened. Use an orangewood stick to gently push the acrylic off the natural nail.

Acetone-Free Options

If you prefer to avoid acetone, consider these alternatives:

1. Filing: Use a nail file with a coarse grit to file down the acrylic until it's very thin. This is a time-consuming process. 2. Over-the-counter acrylic removers: These products contain less harsh ingredients than acetone but may not be as effective. Follow the instructions on the package carefully.

Tips

* Avoid pulling or tearing the acrylic, as this can damage your natural nails. * If the acrylic is stubborn, soak it in acetone for longer periods. * Use a nail buffer to smooth any rough edges after removal. * Apply cuticle oil to hydrate your nails and cuticles.
